Accessibility statement

What we have done to keep this site usable for everyone, what we know is not right yet, and how to reach us if something here gets in your way.

Effective · This is the first published version

In short

  • We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and we treat anything short of it as a bug.
  • Everything on this site can also be done by phone: booking, estimates, and emergency service.
  • This is an honest statement — the problems we know about are listed rather than left out.
  • Tell us when something does not work and we will fix it, and help you get what you needed in the meantime.

This summary is here to be useful, not to replace what follows. The sections below are the ones that apply.

1. Our commitment

Heating and cooling is not optional. A house with no cooling in a Savannah August, or no heat in January, is a health problem before it is a comfort problem — and the people most affected by that are often the same people most affected by a website that will not work with a screen reader, a keyboard or a magnifier. So this is not a compliance exercise for us.

We build this site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, and we aim to meet what is expected of a place of business under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Where we fall short, we want to know, and we will fix it.

2. What we have done

Built into every page:

  • Keyboard access throughout. Every link, button, menu and form control can be reached and operated from the keyboard, in an order that follows the page. A visible focus outline shows where you are, and a skip link at the top of each page jumps straight to the main content.
  • Real structure. Headings in order, landmarks for the header, navigation, main content and footer, lists marked up as lists, and tables used for data rather than for layout — so a screen reader can navigate the page instead of reading it out end to end.
  • Labelled forms. Every field has a visible label, hints are tied to their field, and when something is wrong the error is announced, described in words rather than by colour alone, and focus is moved to it.
  • Readable text. Body text meets the 4.5:1 contrast ratio, the page reflows rather than scrolling sideways when text is enlarged to 200%, and nothing depends on a particular screen size.
  • Respect for reduced motion. If your system asks for less animation, transitions and movement are switched off.
  • Images described. Photographs and illustrations carry alternative text; decorative ones are hidden from assistive technology rather than described pointlessly.
  • No traps. No CAPTCHA to solve, no time limit on a form, nothing that flashes, and nothing that starts playing sound on its own.
  • Plain language. We write in plain English, explain the jargon where we have to use it, and keep the important thing — the phone number — on every page.

3. What we know is not right yet

We would rather tell you than let you discover it. As of the date on this page:

Custom form controls
Some pickers on the request forms — the dropdowns, and the date and quantity fields — are custom built rather than the browser's own. They are keyboard operable, but we are re-testing them with screen readers and expect to improve how they announce themselves.
Small print contrast
A little of the smallest supporting text, and some text in our emails, sits closer to the contrast minimum than we want. We are raising it.
The chat assistant
Replies stream in a few words at a time, which some screen readers announce awkwardly. If the assistant is hard to use, the same answers are in our guides — and the phone is always faster.
No independent audit yet
This statement is based on our own testing rather than a third-party audit. We have not had the site independently assessed, and we will say so here when we have.

4. If the site does not work for you

You never have to use this website to be our customer. Everything here can be done by phone, with a person: booking a visit, getting a free estimate, asking what something costs, or getting someone out in an emergency. Call (912) 858-3737 — the office is open 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday to Friday, and the emergency line is answered around the clock.

If it helps, we will read a page to you over the phone, take your details verbally rather than asking you to fill in a form, or send information in a different format. Just ask. You will not be charged more, or treated any differently, for booking by phone.

5. How we test

  • Keyboard-only walkthroughs of the paths that matter most: the home page, requesting an estimate, sending a request, and the account area.
  • Automated checks for contrast, labelling, landmark structure and heading order as part of our own review process.
  • Zoom and reflow testing at 200%, and on small screens.
  • Current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, on desktop and on mobile.

Accessibility is checked when pages change, not once a year: a new form or a new page is reviewed before it goes out.

6. Tell us about a problem

If something on this site is hard or impossible for you to use, we want to hear about it. Call (912) 858-3737, email info@brabham-hvac.com, or write to Brabham Quality Heating and Air, 5960 Ogeechee Rd Ste N, Savannah, GA 31419.

It helps if you can tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what happened — plus the browser and any assistive technology you were using, if you know. If you would rather not go into that, a sentence saying what would not work is plenty.

We aim to reply within three business days. If a fix will take longer, we will tell you what we are doing about it, and make sure you get what you needed in the meantime — by phone, if that is easier.

7. Status of this statement

Prepared by Brabham Quality Heating and Air on the basis of our own evaluation of brabham-hvac.com against WCAG 2.2 Level AA. It describes the site as it stands on the date shown above, and it is reviewed whenever significant parts of the site change.
