On a new build or an addition, the decisions that matter are made before any equipment arrives: a load calculation for the actual building, duct design that fits the space available, and somewhere the equipment can still be serviced from in ten years. Taking the tonnage from the floor area, or from whatever was in the last house on the street, is how a brand-new system ends up short-cycling and leaving the place humid.
